Mayor Ryan Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Audioman Inc.
6/25/2007

Mayor Matt Ryan was joined by members of his administration, Councilman Robert Weslar and First Ward Business Association members(FWBA) to host a ribbon cutting ceremony at Noon today to welcome the new car accessory business Audioman Inc. on 79 Glenwood Ave. Mayor Ryan cut the ceremonial ribbon with co-owners Jason Sutton and Rick Slouck.  The new business was recently awarded a contract with Ignition Interlock, the only New York State certified producer of breath analyzers that are soldered into the vehicle's electrical systems for individuals who have lost driving privileges due to alcohol related arrests.

“This community is an excellent incubator for business growth,” started Mayor Ryan. “Small businesses are a key ingredient to building healthy neighborhoods and enterprise growth. I am pleased to have this new business here in the First Ward. ” Co-owner Jason Sutton grew up a block away from the shops present location on Glenwood Ave. Jason has experience in the field as he previously worked for Circuit City installing car radios and accessories. He left his installation job to work at a local car dealership where he met co-owner Rick Slouck. Working at the dealership, Jason and Rick were approached by many customers to help install car accessories and began to formulize a business plan to start their own car accessory and installation shop. Having grown up in the area, both Jason and Rick wanted to cultivate their business in the First Ward neighborhood. Don Prudente, President of DriveSafe Ignition Interlock of New York spoke about the contract and program Audioman recently secured.  Don has been expanding DriveSafe Ignition Interlock of New York, Inc. throughout New York State with locations in Nassau County, Suffolk County, Albany, Binghamton and Syracuse. The program is for drivers who have lost driving privileges due to alcohol related arrests. Drivers may now be allowed to obtain a limited driving privilege with an approved ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle.  The ignition interlock system is a breath analyzer which is soldered into your vehicle's electrical system. “The device requires the driver to blow into the system to begin operating the vehicle,” added Don Prudente.  “The system will record the violations and the violations will be sent to the monitoring agency which is usually the probation department in New York State. Our company is working to help keep communities safe from people who drive while intoxicated.” “This new business has solidified a contract that will help keep our streets and community safe,” stated Mayor Ryan. “Audioman’s Interlock product allows courts to have another useful tool to uphold laws and protect our community.”
