Department Overview
The Department of Assessment is responsible for maintaining the public record of all parcels of realty within City of Binghamton boundaries. The primary function of the department is to prepare ad valorem valuations of real estate for tax assessing purposes.
Current Photo Project
The City of Binghamton Assessment Office has been awarded a Real Property Services Tax Administration Technology Improvement Program (RPTAIP) Grant from New York State. The grant helped fund a vital component of an online database that was added the City's web-site in the Spring of 2007.
As part of this project, several Assessment Office employees are taking photographs of all City parcels to update our database. These employees carry City of Binghamton Employee Identification Badges. If you happen to see them taking pictures, please feel free to ask questions. As taxpayers and citizens of Binghamton, your interest in this project is welcome.
Photographs of all parcels are expected to be added to the online database in the Summer of 2008.
Facts
- The tax roll of the City of Binghamton is established on a tentative basis as of May 1 each year, and the roll is finalized on July 1 each year.
- All exemption applications are due in the Assessment Office by March 1st of each. For your convenience, the STAR exemption application is available in the document listing above.
- Taxable status date is March 1st of each year.
- Valuation Date is July 1st of the prior year.
