Youth Bureau

Mission Statement

The mission of the Binghamton City Youth Bureau is to enhance, promote and support opportunities and services for youth in the City of Binghamton through partnership and collaboration with the community.

Message from the Director

Our youth need opportunities in order to thrive, and while their choices too often are lacking, the City Youth Bureau is here to help. For nearly five years now, we’ve been developing positive youth alternatives, and we’re pleased to celebrate our advances.

COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS
One key to our work is building and supporting collaborations among other youth agencies, and an example of this approach is our partnership with the Binghamton City School District to support Binghamton University’s Gear-Up program, which provides “at-risk” teens and pre-teens with tutoring, mentoring, and social events that bring together young people, parents/guardians, and other adult mentors in an environment that fosters personal leadership and team building. Through contacts in our schools, door-to-door outreach, and other forms of outreach, the Youth Bureau plays a central role in bringing Gear Up’s many participants to the table, filling a critical need for the program’s success.

ENHANCING PROGRAMS
The Bureau is also promoting opportunities through its continued support of existing organizations.

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
On top of academics, athletics, and the arts, we’ve also provided youth employment opportunities, further helping to engage our young people and prepare them for the 21st century economy. We launched our first Summer Youth Employment Program in the summer of 2008.

The Binghamton City Youth Bureau has been able to accomplish some amazing things with the support of City Hall, our many partners and the community as a whole. I continue to see each day as an opportunity to work with some of the most talented, enthusiastic and hard working young people known to the City of Binghamton. My interactions with our youth keep me inspired.

Best Regards,

Ana Shaello-Johnson, Director of the Youth Bureau
