Parks & Recreation
Mission Statement
The Binghamton Parks and Recreation Department's mission is to meet the leisure-time needs of the people of Binghamton. Towards that end, we maintain twenty-nine parks, ranging from small green spaces to the 368 acre Ely Park Golf Course, and offer a year-round schedule of programs and special events for all ages and interests. From Little League Baseball to the Chris Thater Memorial Bike Race to the LG&T Tennis Challenger Tournament, a tuneful ride on the Recreation Park Carousel to a quiet walk through the historic park itself, maybe even a visit to Greenman or First Ward Senior Centers, the Binghamton Parks and Recreation Department has something for you.
Ely Park Golf Course
The City owns Ely Park Golf Course, which is now operated by Ely Park LLC. For more information about playing at and visiting the golf course, visit www.elyparkgolf.com. To view photos of Ely Park Golf Course, click the photos below.
Tree Plantings
Trees in our city can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs for our homes and workplaces, moderate the temperature, clean the air and water, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees also increase property values, enhance economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community. The City of Binghamton Park's Department offers a free tree planting service. Residents interested in having a tree planted in the utility strip in front of their property should complete the Tree Request Form (located in document listing at right) and return it to the Park's Department. Plantings will begin in Fall 2007. If you have any questions call the Parks Department at 772-7017 or email shadetree@cityofbinghamton.com.
