St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church will be selling the pirohies and kielbasa. All proceeds will go to Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW). Parlor City 5K Run
111 runners competed in the 2nd annual Parlor City 5K Run held at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2009 in downtown Binghamton under partly sunny skies. Results have been posted. Please click on Divisions & Places or Times & Places.
A certified USATF 5K distance, the race course passed through Binghamton's downtown and West Side historic districts before a race finish after crossing the Court Street Bridge. The event was made possible by the race's financial sponsor, Chemung Canal & Trust; additional support and assistance was provided by the Downtown Binghamton Business Association (DBBA); City of Binghamton Departments of Economic Development, Parks, Public Works and Police/Traffic Division; the Broome County STOP-DWI Program, and the Triple Cities Runners Club. The race is a celebration of Pirohi Day - an event inspired by NYS Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. The day helps St. Michael's Church raise money for Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) through sales of pirohies at July Fest. In 2007 and 2008 St. Michael's spearheaded a petition that won Binghamton the designation as "Pirogie Capital of America" by Mrs. T's Pierogies; the $10,000 award was given to CHOW.
Please mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual July Fest Parlor City 5K Run, A Celebration of Pirohi Day will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010.
